BMW may have joined the electric party late, but then they have joined in style, with BMW i4 bought in as complete CBU. Dare we say electric cars are getting sexier by the day.
Apart from an output of 340 HP, and a 0-100 in 5.7 seconds, the i4 has range topping claimed driving range of 590 kms and with an introductory offer of complimentary wall mounted charger unit.
On the launch, Mr. Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India said, “With the launch of the BMW i4, I am excited to introduce the first electric mid-size sedan in the country. BMW i4 effortlessly combines sheer driving pleasure with sustainability as never experienced before. Thanks to its unique combination of BMW eDrive technology, extremely slim and high-voltage lithium-ion battery, rear wheel drive and advanced suspension kinematics, the BMW i4 gets an outstanding sporty feel. It is India’s longest range electric vehicle. Absolute luxury with class leading ambience, generous space, and rear axle air suspension ensures maximum comfort even for longer trips. Excitingly dynamic, comfortable and powerful in equal measure, the BMW i4 provides a truly electrifying experience that exceeds all expectations – every day, every trip. BMW Group today offers the most extensive and diverse portfolio of electric cars for Indian customers”.
One quick look at the car and you will fall for the coupe like silhouette of the car. Ofcourse, the front grille does have a polarizing view, but when seen in person, it does not really look out of place, and we found it gels well with the overall sharp front fascia. The side view is characterized by a long wheelbase, frameless doors and short overhangs. What’s particularly un-BMW here are the door handles which are 80s style pull type. The rear is flanked by typical BMW L-Shaped LED lights which cannot be mistaken for any other car.
Last time around we drove the Volvo XC40 Recharge we were disappointed with the boot space the SUV had, all thanks to the battery pack eating up most of the boot space, however no such complains with the i4, it has it has generous 470 litres of boot space and came be extended upto 1290 litres should you need more.
On the inside, the i4 is the first product to be launched in India with BMW’s new curved display, which pretty much is going to be the genesis of every BMW car soon, be it the 3 series, or the 7 series or the X7 which got updated. This all-new display boasts of 12.3-inch display behind the steering wheel and 14.9-inch central display with inbuilt navigation, new generation iDrive with BMW’s famed operating system 8 and an updated BMW’s virtual assistant. A three-zone climate control AC means, even the rear passengers are going to be comfortable sitting behind in the i4.
Audiophiles in you will not miss great audio too, as the i4 is equipped with Harman Kardon Surround Sound with 17 speakers offering acoustic music to your ears. The car will come with host of connected tech to keep the occupants engrossed and it’s a BMW, hence- Driving Pleasure is guaranteed. The i4 will be offered with standard 2 years warranty for unlimited kms and the batteries are covered with 8 years warranty or upto 1.6 lac kms
We think, it is priced sensibly at 69.90 lacs ex showroom, what do you think?
