If you are a car enthusiast then you must know Lamborghini, but in the history of Lamborghini one of the most important cars is the Jalpa!
Few of us may remember the Lamborghini Jalpa as we should. Let us discover more about this car as Lamborghini celebrated its 40th Anniversary of the Jalpa.
Way back in March 1981, brand Lamborghini presented the ‘Jalpa’ edition to the public for the first time. It was at the Geneva Motor Show that this luxurious automobile series was first released. The word Jalpa is derived from a breed of fighting bulls called ‘Jalpa Kandachia’. Furthermore, this vehicle model was the final development of the ‘Urraco and Silhouette’ project undertaken by the Bolognese luxury carmaker. MWTV presents the important facts about Lamborghini’s last grand touring sedan with a V8 engine.
The evolved engine of the Lamborghini Jalpa:
The ‘90 V8’ engine of the Lamborghini Jalpa made it the symbol of technical innovation excellence when first released in the early 1980s. This engine is aluminum; it comprises four chain-controlled overhead camshafts installed with the Urraco and Silhouette. Furthermore, the engine of the Jalpa was powered by 4 Weber 42 DCNF twin carburetors having a 3.5-liter displacement (3485 ccs) and a compression ratio of 9:2:1. It also possessed the capacity of generating a maximum power output of 255 hp at 7000 rpm. The maximum torque it could produce was 32 km at 3500 rpm at the maximum speed of 248 km/h (155 mph).
The creation of the Lamborghini Jalpa and the story behind it:
Behind the production of the Jalpa prototype lies a special story. This tale essentially involves a Silhouette that was once produced by Lamborghini and never sold. As a result, it was used by the brand to develop a new automobile model. More importantly, the Jalpa, which went into production in 1982, became known for its special metallic bronze colour and semi-supporting steel body. The interior of this vehicle was also designed in a luxurious way using an extensive manner of leather and carpeting. It also comprises an opening roof that was designed specifically to facilitate removal and reassembly.
The modifications in Lamborghini Jalpa ‘Second Series’:
In the 1984 Geneva Motor show, the ‘Second Edition’ of Lamborghini Jalpa was released. In which the bumpers and air intakes in the model were aesthetically modified. The interior of this sedan was also completely revamped. The production of this Lamborghini series ceased to continue from 1988. It was also the year that saw the last Lamborghini sedan having a V8 engine being produced. Historically speaking, it is also the last sports car of this class to have a particular engine displacement and positioning.
In terms of its conception, the Lamborghini Jalpa seems to be the predecessor of the 2003 Gallardo. It has also gone on to become the Italian luxury car brand’s most sold and remembered car.
