Pagani Automobili S.p.A is an Italian manufacturer of sports cars and carbon fibre. The company was founded in 1992 by the Argentinian Horacio Pagani and is based in San Cesario Sul Panaro, near Modena, Italy next to the likes of Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini. Pagani’s childlike enthusiasm for his art is impossible to ignore - his progress from a baker’s son in Argentina to a smart, young engineer seeking his fortune in Italy.
Horacio Pagani is the founder and CEO of Pagani Automobili S.p.A., the exceptional creator behind the Zonda and Huayra. From humble roots in Argentina, he was obsessed with cars since a young age. In 1983, he moved to Italy to pursue his dream of building a supercar, joining Lamborghini where he later created the Countach Evoluzione, a concept Lambo made entirely with heavy carbon fibre. When Lamborghini refused to buy an autoclave, it resulted in the end of his career at Lamborghini. In 1991 he went out by himself with a consultancy of his own called Modena Design which exists till today. The firm is focused on making carbon fibre components for Formula One cars and clients like Daimler, Ferrari and Aprilla. The next year in 1992, Pagani founded Pagni Automobili Modena. It took seven long years till the Zonda was ready.
Horacio signed a deal with Mercedes-Benz to power a Pagani with V12 engines in 1994. The first car by Pagani was the Zonda C12, named after a current of air which flows in the Andes in Argentina. The Pagani Zonda was presented to the world at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show. The Pagani Zonda is thought to be one of the world’s great super cars. The Zonda Cinque Roadster and Zonda R which came towards the end of the life for the Zonda, fully reflects Pagani’s vision of art and science. Thanks to the extra power, lighter weight, robotized multi-program sequential transmission and adjustable suspensions, and they raised the supercar game to another level. The car’s design was inspired by jet fighters and the famous Sauber-Mercedes Silver Arrow Group C cars, featuring several unique design elements, including its circular four pipe exhaust.
The successor of Pagani Zonda, officially presented at the Geneva Auto Salon 2011, was the Pagani Huayra. The Zonda’s characterful mix of traditional and futuristic is taken onto the next level by the Huayra. The 6.0 litres AMG managed to extract a staggering 720 horsepower. The power is supplied to the rear wheels via a seven-speed gearbox with a dual plate clutch, giving a performance out of the world.
As Horacio Pagani once said, “To truly know something, you must love it passionately.” he did love all his creations passionately as do we here at MWTV!
